Justice: What's The Right Thing To Do? Response
In the video we watched in class about what is the right thing to do in certain situations was really amusing. The professor laid out situations that were discussable and many disagreed with one another. One of the situations was about a cabin boy who got sick during an expedition, and the 3 crew men decided to kill him, as a way of survival. However in my opinion is was not right to kill the poor cabin boy. Yes, he may not have had anyone to miss him, but that doesn't justify his right to not live, and to not know this was going to happen to him. The crew members should've done the lottery they had in mind, along with specifically telling the men that one would become food. The lottery would've made sure that all the crew men knew what they were getting into. Nonetheless, the idea of "the greatest good for the greatest number" in their case, made sense. They, the crew men, didn't know how long they would be there, so one would have to sacrifice for the benefit of all. Though, unlike what they did to the cabin boy, kill him without him knowing, was wrong. Poor boy he had to no choice.
